A typical session is 20 to 30 minutes depending on the age, physical condition, and the focus of the dog.
-
Weekly, biweekly, or on demand
Most people choose 1 time a week, having more sessions in the hotter and colder months when the dogs can’t get outside to run.
-
Unfortunately for the safety of the dogs, just 1 dog at a time will be in the trailer. We want a controlled area so all dogs are comfortable using the slatmill.

Before: Once we receive your information, we will be in contact with you to review your dog’s history and schedule the appointment. After the appointment is scheduled, a waiver will be sent for your signature. Appointments are typically scheduled 2 weeks in advance. The day before you will receive a confirmation text message that you will need to confirm. On the day of the appointment a text message will be sent with estimated arrival time. This will give you time to put on your dog’s harness (If you don’t use a harness, one will be provided for you), take them for a potty break, and ensure they are ready to run. It is recommended dogs should be fed no sooner than 3 hours before the appointment.
During: We will get to know your dog so we can ensure they have a safe and positive experience. The dog will be led to the slatmill and the harness will be hooked to it. We will supervise and encourage their movements while they walk, trot, or run. There is no motor involved, so the dog is controlling the speed of the slatmill.
After: You will have a tired dog, who will either want to lay down and rest or has so much energy from working out that zoomies may occur. This isn’t unusual and shouldn’t last very long, as they are releasing the endorphins and adrenaline from their workout. Your dog’s energy level will decrease as their heartrate decreases.
-
Most dogs are able to walk comfortably on the slatmill within 5 to 10 minutes the first time they are introduced. As the slatmill is powered by the dog, and is not motorized, when the dog speeds up, the slatmill speeds up, when the dog slows down, the slatmill slows down. We are by your dog the entire time they are on the slatmill ensuring a positive and safe experience. Please let us know if your dog has any special needs so that we can customize their experience.
-
Your dog may run at full speed, or they may not, but they are still getting a full workout. On the slatmill your dog needs to use focus and balance while engaging their core muscles in order for the slatmill to move forward.
-
The first session we do require your presence for the comfort of your dog as well as the positive reinforcement associated with the experience. Moving forward, arrangements can be determined whether it be a handoff at the door or a drop in during your work day.
